For every ending, there is a new beginning.
While this maxim might be so well known that it borders on clichéd, it remains valid – and comforting – to me. Summer break is ending, a new school year is beginning. Baseball season is ending (at least for the Padres), football season is beginning. The abundant supply of seasonal watermelon, peaches, and cherries is ending, pumpkin spice everything is beginning.
Likewise, this Sunday our journey through the story of the Exodus comes to an end. Just as the last chapter of Exodus does not conclude the epic adventure narrative of God’s miraculous deliverance of the Israelites in the desert, so too our journey continues into this next season as a church. The question is, what do we need to carry with us as we continue this next season together?
Every new beginning comes from some other beginning’s end,
