I am not what you might call artistic – I can’t draw (even my stick figures are disfigured), I can’t sing, I can no longer play an instrument (so many piano lessons down the drain), and my dancing leaves something to be desired – that “something” being rhythm. By every traditional measure, I fall short. Because of that, I used to believe that also meant I am not creative. Then, a few years ago, I read this quote:
Everyone is a genius. But if you judge a fish by its ability to
climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing that it is stupid.
And it occurred to me that the same thing could be said about creativity: everyone is creative, but if you judge people only by the classic arts, they will live their whole lives believing they are not creative. As beings created by the most creative Being in the universe, I believe we are all endowed with an ability to express creativity, in our own unique way.
Our creativity is how we connect to our Creator, which is why it is one of Flood’s central values as a faith community. This Palm Sunday, join us for a very special and creative worship experience.
