Matt’s Blog: Home for the Holidays

But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause
great joy for all the people…” Luke 2:10

As we reflect upon the good news of Jesus this Christmas season, it is with profound joy that I share an important update in the life of our church family.

We purchased a church home!

We found a miracle location that meets our search criteria to house our San Diego Campus, our various ministries throughout the week and central offices. Our new church home is a two story, 22,000 square foot building located at 4772 Alvarado Canyon Road. The property is one minute off the 8 freeway and only 7 minutes away from Kearny High School. We are excited to be just one trolley stop away from SDSU and the SDSU West expansion going in at the stadium!

Since our beginnings as a church, we’ve had a heart for reaching the emerging generations including young adults, college students, youth and children. We saw this on full display at our annual Christmas Collective.

We believe a part of our story moving forward is owning a permanent facility to allow our movement to thrive for generations to come.

As shared at recent Flood Family Meetings, we have a Facility Search Team made up of church members from different backgrounds that initially vetted this property on our behalf. Once we entered into escrow, we did our due diligence to make sure the property could meet our needs. Our Facility Search Team, Staff Team and Support Team (our legal Board of Directors), reviewed these findings and unanimously agreed to move forward in the purchase process. Two weeks ago we asked the church to fast and pray as we sought a major price reduction from our original offer. We are excited to share that the seller responded favorably and reduced the price by $500K!

We are able to purchase the building from our savings due to your faithful giving over the years!

We encourage you to drive by the new space to check it out. You’ll notice that the property needs a lot of work to transform from a a film factory that was built in 1965 into a vision-forward gathering space for ministry on Sundays and throughout the week. We have hired an architectural studio and have been working with them to ensure the space can meet all of our needs. Though much will change as we continue the design and permitting process, below are some initial renderings of what could be. We are really excited about the possibilities! The build-out costs will be several million dollars. As plans and cost estimates finalize, we will have a Flood Family Meeting in the new year to share more news and launch a necessary resource initiative.

We would like to be in the new building as quickly as possible, and will hopefully move in between October 2019 and March 2020.

We have two big requests right now.

First, continue praying! Pray specifically that the build-out plans not only move us forward as a community, but are also affordable. Pray for wisdom as architects, contractors and engineers work on our behalf. Please also pray closing on the property goes smoothly. We hope to receive keys on December 28th.

Second, make a year end gift to Flood! Next year will be an exciting and stretching year for us. We want to see December giving exceed all expectations, so the needs of our vision are met in 2019. Please give here today.

I am beyond grateful for the Lord’s provision in and through our community over the past 18 years, and am excited for what is to come in 2019! A new chapter is being written and I’m excited for you to be a part of it. I also look forward to worshiping alongside many of you at our upcoming Christmas Eve gatherings. Our unique schedule is available here.

On behalf of our Staff, Support and Facility Search Teams this Christmas season,

Please note: Below are some initial concepts for the space. Due to the planning stage that we are in, finalized plans and associated costs will be presented in early 2019.
