Soma 2012 Conference Information
Sorry, Registration has Closed for this Year’s Conference
CONFERENCE THEME:
Get Real: Embracing the Truths that Set Us Free
The goal of this year’s conference is to help us take a look at the reality of our lives. As we are able to name the “what is” as it pertains to what we really believe, what we really desire, and where we are really at, then we can invite God to transform those areas of our lives, and live out of the freedom God has for us.

March 29-31 (Thursday and Friday evening, Saturday all day)
Thursday and Friday (Evenings)
FLOOD Offices
Saturday (All Day)
NTC Promenade, Liberty Station – McMillin Events Center

- First-Timer Participants take the Strengths and MBTI Assessments before the conference.
- Participants have a coach that helps them talk through next steps.
- SOMA is for everyone, every year – even if you have been before!
SOMA IS DESIGNED TO:
- Inspire you to dream big

SOMA Workshops
Real Rest with Larry Warner, b Ministries
The idea of rest is appealing in theory, but how do we actually “unplug” in today’s society and still ourselves? Not just from the external noise of life, but from the internal noise, too. For many of us, the voices of productivity, busyness, and self-worth have drowned out the quiet call to live from a rested soul. Join Larry Warner as he invites us to jump off the treadmill of trying and head toward still waters and green pastures.
Real Relationships with Charlie and Heather Ruce, The Soul Care House
We want to feel authentic connection to others–the sense that our relationships are really working–and yet, despite our best efforts, we can still feel isolated and detached. One of the most sinister culprits to knowing others and being known ourselves is shame. Join Heather and Charlie as they facilitate a dialogue about shame–unmasking the #1 barrier to building the real relationships we are longing for.
Real Leadership with Scott Schimmel, Faith@Work Specialist with InterVarsity
Real leadership begins with leading yourself. There’s just no way around this vital truth. Learning to lead ourselves first means being responsible for our own personal development, being able to diagnosis where we are stuck as leaders, and being proactive in transforming our work culture and seeking feedback. Come learn the skills involved in self-leadership as you expand your capacity for others-leadership.
Real Discernment with Sheryl Fleisher, Consultant and Spiritual Director
Does God really talk to us? Can we really hear God’s voice? Where do our own thoughts and desires come into play? True discernment involves us actively participating with the Holy Spirit in an interdependent way, not a solely dependent or passive way. Come to this workshop as we explore foundational learnings that help us discern God’s voice, our voice, and the elements of real discernment.
Real Conversations with Dora Yiu, Associate Area Director with InterVarsity
Striking up spiritual conversations with friends, family, or co-workers can feel forced, awkward, and scary. Do you steer clear of opening up about your faith for fear you’ll be misunderstood? In this interactive session, Dora will lead us in the art of talking, listening, and creating everyday spiritual conversations about our faith journeys. No megaphones, tracts, street corners, or soapboxes. We promise.
Real Beliefs with Scott Wildey, Associate Pastor, Flood Church
Though we all have stated convictions about life and faith, most of us live out another set of beliefs driven by influences unseen and uncontested. At best, we live with a nagging tension. At worst, we are blind to who we really are and how to articulate why and what we truly believe. Come to this workshop and learn how to ‘be transformed by the renewing of your mind’ in order to wholeheartedly live out what your mouth says is true.
